Known as our “Jewel of The Rockies” this scenic stretch of river will take your breath away. Winding through our Rocky Mountains and Banff, Alberta this glacier fed stretch of river lays claim to the much sought after brown trout. Crystal clear water winds its way through forested islands at the base of Rocky cliffs that stretch up towards the heavens. This picturesque stretch of river will not only keep fishermen captivated, but nature lovers and bird watchers alike.
Cast streamers nymphs and dry flies to brown trout as well as bull trout, cutthroat trout, and rocky mountain whitefish the reside in this scenic mountain paradise. The Upper Bow is an experience in itself, one of the ultimate ways to experience the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
The fishing on the Upper Bow can’t be confused with the prolific nature of the Blue Ribbon stretch of the Bow downstream of Calgary. Up here the river is freestone in nature and a cold glacial fed river with far less nutrient levels than its blue ribbon counter part the lower bow. The Upper bow was once a much more prolific fishery but with changes to water treatment plants in Banff and Canmore the river has lost what was previously one of its top sources of aquatic nutrients. Fishing the Upper bow is about floating and fishing through incredible scenery with the chances of catching fish, sadly its just not the fishery that the Blue Ribbon Stretch of the lower bow is.
