The early morning stonefly hatch has been on this week! Almost everyday that is. Josh did several 4am starts in a row with guests and the river fished very very well with big foam stones so Josh and Steve did a 4am float one day before they had to open the shop at 7:30. That was the one day the river fished like crap in the morning. 2 eats on stones between 4 and 7:30 which was super disappointing. The following 3 days the river fished extremely well again on client trips. Apparently our guides are not allowed to enjoy the fishing our guests do 😉
July 1st was a heli fishing trip to The Ram. The Ram fished extremely well and was incredible for numbers, although the rain the night before made the river just colored enough that sight fishing trophy fish was too difficult. Our guest was able to fish dries all day but we just couldn’t see what fish was going to come up and eat until they ate the fly.
The big rains the night before made the Bow high and dirty but Naoto still had an exceptional day despite the high and colored water. The bump in flows put the fish off in the morning but in the afternoon they hooked so many fish on streamers.
