Josh was invited to join an industry friend Mike Hennesey of Hawaii on the Fly on a hosted trip to Ikari House on Christmas Island. Josh has been wanting to go to Christmas Island forever now and his first impressions were every bit as impressive as his final one’s. He managed to drown one DSLR when a seal on his underwater housing leaked, but did get the pictures needed for the photo essay for Fly Fusion. He also ate well than he could ever have expected at one of the worlds most remote fishing destinations, and was very impressed with how clean the simple and yet well laid out rooms were. Josh managed to land 17 different species of fish, 15 of which were new species. He finally crossed GT’s off his hit list and is now completely obsessed with Triggerfish after dedicating much of his trip to triggers.
Big GT’s were playing hard to get with lots of 10-30lbs GT’s landed, but all the good fish managed to get away. Josh lost 2 12wt lines chasing GT’s, had a 6/0 billfish popper straightened out by a 75+lbs fish and even had shots at a fish over 100lbs.
Josh has been fortunate to travel to a lot of different countries and fishing destinations and rarely have we seen him this excited about a new destination. We can’t wait to do an O.F.F. hosted trip to Christmas Island in Winter of 2016. Stay tuned for more info on dates for hosting.
